Horizon 2020 strengthens EQA senior staff capacity on environmental management tools

Seven senior staff members of the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority (EQA) visited Vienna, Austria, for a four-day study visit to the Austrian Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (19-22 December 2011). Through this study visit the Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme (CB/MEP) addressed the EQA’s request to strengthen its capacity in environmental management issues.

Training on Mediterranean Public Private Partnership schemes in Water Infrastructure

This three-day long regional training course was organized in Amman, Jordan (19-21 December 2011) and was a collaborative effort of two ENPI funded projects, the H2020 CB/MEP and the recently launched Sustainable Integrated Water management (SWIM) project. Twenty five high-level professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, Morocco, oPt and Tunisia attended the course.

Learning to apply ecosystem-based management in the Mediterranean

A two-day regional training course on “Ecosystem-based management in the Mediterranean”, took place in Athens on 15-16 December 2011. It was organized by the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and WWF MedPO, in collaboration with UNEP/MAP, within the framework of the EU funded Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme. It was hosted by the University of Athens (UoA) and supported by the Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change.

Organising greener events in the Mediterranean

On 14 December 2011, the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE) and UNEP/MAP’s Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) co-organized a Mediterranean workshop on how events can be organized in line with sustainability principles. Both the EU funded Horizon 2020 CB/MEP and the Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (MedPartnership) supported the workshop as well as the development of the main tool used, the Sustainable Events Toolkit for the Mediterranean.
